About COHEF
COHEF is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization founded in 1994 with a mission to promote education and improve the basic living conditions for the rural population of Kenscoff, Haiti. An independent and apolitical organization, COHEF maintains a key partnership with the Wynne Farm Ecological Reserve. Its collaborative network also includes long-standing partnerships with Peace Flags in the Wind and, since 2017, JJ’s Hoops4Haiti, founded by Jonathan Lamothe. For over 25 years, COHEF has supported three small schools and one orphanage, serving approximately 600 children annually.

The organization's comprehensive support includes providing essential school supplies, clothing, and holiday gifts, as well as contributing to teacher salaries. A cornerstone of its work is a scholarship program that supports 100 elementary school children and several college and technical school students, with ten college graduates already achieved. Furthermore, COHEF hosts an annual free summer camp for an average of 800 children, powered by a dedicated network of volunteers from Haiti and the United States who cover their own travel expenses.

COHEF’s strategic focus is on expanding its impact through several key initiatives. Immediate needs include securing individual and organizational sponsors for children at $150 annually, funding scholarships for higher education, and establishing a reliable daily meal program, which has proven to dramatically increase school attendance. The organization also seeks funding for a full-time staff member in Haiti to ensure effective program oversight.
Looking to the future, COHEF’s long-term goals are centered on sustainable development. The flagship project is the establishment of the Victor Wynne/COHEF Agriculture/Technical Academy, a tribute to the local environmental pioneer. Additionally, the vision includes creating a community bakery to generate organizational income and provide local employment. COHEF actively invites new volunteers, partners, and donors to join in this collective effort to advance education and opportunity in rural Haiti.
